How we assess casinos

Six weighted criteria, applied the same way to every operator. We deposit our own money, request a real withdrawal, and time it. Here is the whole protocol, including what we get paid and why it does not move the score.

The six criteria

Each is scored independently, then weighted. An operator can rank well on games and support and still be excluded on a single licence failure, because the weightings never override the disqualifiers.

How We Analyse Casinos: Our Testing Method

The heaviest weighting, because it is where an offer is won or lost. We activate every bonus with our own money and confirm the requirement is genuinely absent rather than merely low. Then we hunt the clause that replaces it: the payout cap. The seven wager-free formats each hide it in a different place.

  • Bonus activated with a real deposit, never assumed from the banner
  • Requirement confirmed at zero, and the base it would apply to
  • Payout cap located and recorded, including on free spin winnings
  • Maximum bet clause, excluded games and expiry window

Licence and security

We check the licence number against the regulator's own register rather than trusting the badge in the footer. A licence that cannot be verified at source is treated as absent, and the operator does not make the list whatever its bonus looks like.

  • Licence number verified on the regulator register, not the footer badge
  • Active status and any published sanctions
  • Independent RNG and fairness audits
  • Encryption in transit and data handling policy

Withdrawals, measured not quoted

We deposit, play, and withdraw on every operator, then time the payout from request to arrival. Advertised speeds describe one stage of a longer path, which is exactly what our withdrawal guide breaks down. We record the whole path.

  • Real withdrawal requested and timed end to end
  • Verification duration recorded separately from processing
  • Fees compared against the published schedule
  • Pending period, and whether it can be disabled

Games and return rates

Catalogue size matters far less than what the games actually return. We check published RTP on the titles most people play, since the same slot can ship at different rates depending on how the operator configures it.

  • Published RTP on the most played titles
  • Studio quality and breadth rather than raw game count
  • Live dealer availability and table limits
  • Behaviour on mobile, tested on a real device

Support, tested under pressure

We contact support with a genuinely awkward question, usually about a bonus clause or a held payout, and we time the answer. Anyone can staff a chat that handles password resets.

  • Response time measured on a real query, at different hours
  • Whether the answer is accurate or a copy-paste
  • Escalation route and named dispute body
  • Clarity of the interface and of the terms themselves

Player protection

Deposit limits, loss limits, reality checks and self-exclusion, checked by switching them on rather than by noting their presence on a help page. Our responsible gaming page explains what each tool does.

  • Limits actually set, not just listed
  • Self-exclusion route and whether it spans sister brands
  • Cooling-off options and how easily they are found
  • Links to independent support organisations

How a review actually runs

  1. 01

    Shortlist

Identify operators advertising bonuses with no wagering requirement.

  2. 02

    Deposit

Register, verify identity, and deposit our own funds. No press accounts.

  3. 03

    Play

Claim the bonus, play it, and record how the balance and terms behave.

  4. 04

    Withdraw

Request a payout and time every stage until the money lands.

  5. 05

    Score

Rate the six criteria above and apply the weightings.

  6. 06

    Recheck

Revisit on a schedule, because terms change without notice.

Where our money comes from

We earn a commission when a reader registers with an operator through a link on this site. That is how the site is funded, and you should know it before you read a single recommendation.

It does not change the scoring. Commission rates are not an input to any of the six criteria, the person scoring an operator does not see its commercial terms, and operators paying the most are regularly absent from the list because they failed on withdrawals or on bonus caps. An operator cannot buy a position here, and none has ever been offered one.

Where an operator declines to be listed, or we decline to list it, we say so rather than quietly omitting it.

Every casino in our selection has been through the six checks above.
